Good of the Arrow: Easy Community Service!

My wife's classroom is currently entered in a contest sponsored by Del Monte to give grants of $1000 to deserving schools. You can help out by casting a vote for her room. There isn't any complicated registration, you don't have to give them any information about yourself, so no follow-up junk mail. Just a great chance for some easy community service on behalf of our very own Lorax (you know, she speaks for the trees).

D-bar-A Shines as Host for National Leadership Seminar

Kudos, my Brother Arrowmen! Our efforts at the Fall Ordeal, and the Sunday service day on October 10, really paid off. Many attendees of the National Leadership Seminar told us or we overheard them say how impressed they were with our camp, its condition, and its amenities. Thank you for all your hard work and great efforts on behalf of our camp, our Lodge, and our Brotherhood.

Good of the Arrow: Fall Fellowship

Fellow brothers,

Have you ever thought; “Man, I wish the OA was more fun and less work!” Well do I have a weekend for you!! It’s the Fall Fellowship weekend where we relax and spend a fun weekend at D-A with good friends and food. It’s in two weeks, October 29 – 31, and it’s only $25 (you get to sleep in a cabin too!).
Have you ever wondered how you become a Lodge Officer (like Lodge Chief)? We do this on the Fall Fellowship Weekend also, after Saturday’s Dinner, with the Lodge Officers Election. So come out and put your two cents in (only youth are allowed to vote).
We will welcome our newest Vigil members into our Lodge on Saturday night also.
So come on out it’ll be a blast! Oh! I almost forgot. Since you’re going to be there anyway, you might as well do your Brotherhood Conversion Saturday night (if you’re eligible?). It’s only $15.
Hope to see you guys there.

Good of the Arrow: Volunteers Needed - Lions Thanksgiving Day Game

I'm back again to ask for volunteers for this year's United Way Halftime Show during the Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Game. Volunteers need to make practices on BOTH the Tuesday (5-9PM) and Wednesday (3-9PM) before the day of the game.

Volunteers will carry out the flag for the National Anthem and Opening Ceremony. We will also be responsible for setting up and tearing down the stage used for the halftime show. Crew will get a t-shirt and lunch on gameday. We do not yet know who the talent will be, but I will let everyone know as soon as I find out.

If you are interested in helping out or need additional information, please email me. If volunteering, I need the name, age, phone number and shirt size for each person. Limited to high school age (14+) and above. There are lots of slots to fill this year, so please pass this along to other Scouts and Scouters, family, and friends.

All Arrowmen should be proud of the work performed this weekend.

Good of the Arrow: Wyckoff Lodge Kitchen Receives cleaning

I want to thank the OA for the stupendous job they did in the kitchen cleaning and organizing of the equipment, at the Fall Conclave on the weekend of September 17 - 19.

This was one of the best kitchen crews that I have worked with. They got all of the food out on time, and had time to clean up the equipment and plan ahead for the next meal.

Thanks to the OA Kitchen Crew!!

Good of the Arrow: Guess the Lodge Chief

This past weekend I attended the first National Venturing event which celebrated Scouting's Centennial at Beaumont Scout Reservation in the Greater St. Louis Council. While there, I met one of our past Migisi members. He is a Vigil Arrowman that was honored with the Rutherford Award in 1972, the Neynaber and Oatley in 1974, and served as Lodge Chief with Gordon Draper as his Lodge Adviser. He now serves as the Scout Executive for the Abraham Lincoln Council in Springfield, IL. Dan O'Brien sends his best wishes for the continued success of the OA in the Great Lakes Council.

Clay Shooting Event Help - Hunter's Creek, Metamora

There is a sporting clay event this weekend at Hunter's Creek on Saturday morning starting at 8 am and ending at lunchtime. This is a Great Lakes Council fundraising event that Scout Executive John Reesor has developed over the year. Our lodge and Chippewa Lodge were contacted for support.

Twenty eight OA youth (14 and up) or adults are needed to help run the shooting stations. You will be asked to either push the trigger to release the clays or track the shooters scores. The OA members will need to wear a full field uniform and their OA sash - clean, of course.

Please contact Mr. Jay Soucy via his cell phone at 248-818-0695 so he can track people coming to help. Jay can also answer any questions on the program, roles, and responsibilities at the event.

Thank you for your help on such short notice. If you do attend, your support is great appreciated. Have a great time and lots of fun!!

Fall Ordeal

As the Summer comes to a close, the Fall Ordeal is approaching quickly. To meet our Quality Lodge Requirement we still have a ways to go for Positive Membership Growth. Also, due to the Council Rendez-Vous, the event is earlier this year, taking place from September 17-19. There are many projects that the Lodge is working on, so come on out to D-bar-A to help us to complete them. Also, it is a tent event and be sure to register early, get your forms from www.migisi.org or the upcoming Eagle Pipe. See you there!

Yours in Brotherhood,

Communications Committee: The Heat is On!

There are only a handful of days left to submit your article for the next Eagle Pipe. The deadline is July 17! If you haven't submitted your article yet, what are you waiting for?

For chapters, this article is part of the Neynabor award; if you're an officer and you'd like to earn that prestigious award, then you need to work with your chief to ensure you have an article in every issue.

Don't delay, send it today!

Eagle Pipe Deadline Looms (REVISED DATE!)

The deadline for the August edition of the Eagle Pipe is July 17. Please submit your articles to Dane no later than that day. Anything after that will be considered an early submission for the Fall Eagle Pipe.

Don't Procrastinate! Submit your article now and make everyone's life easier. You don't want to be that guy that has to rush this because you've blown it off for the last month thinking there was plenty of time left. It probably didn't work that well on your English paper and it won't work well now.

July 17. Be on time! Better yet, be early.

Good of the Arrow: A

On Thursday June, 10 Wsigau Chapter held its Annual “Most Excellent” Chapter Picnic at Mt. Hope Church in Livonia. We had 42 members participating in the merriment, including our Lodge Adviser Mr. Retzbach. The Chapter installed two fire rings for Mt. Hope Church. We also held a Brotherhood Conversion later that evening. I would like to thank and congratulate the three Ordeal Members who converted to the Brotherhood Honor that night. I would also like to greatly thank Mr. Bill Federonko for the “Most Excellent” Picnic Food on the planet!! Everyone most definitely had their fill! Wsigau members had a blast. If you weren’t there you missed out on one heck of a picnic.
